Configuring Request Types
Tailor request forms to each type of discount
Request types let your organization categorize requests by the nature of the discount being sought. Each type can have its own set of custom fields, so submitters are prompted for the information that’s actually relevant to that kind of request.
What Request Types Are For
Without request types, every request would look the same — the same fields, the same structure, regardless of whether it’s a standard customer discount, a partner pricing exception, or a large end-of-quarter deal. Request types let you tailor the submission form to the situation, so approvers always have the context they need.
Managing Request Types
Request types are configured by Administrators in Organization Settings:
- In the sidebar, click Settings.
- Under the Workflow section, select Request Types.
The page lists all currently configured request types.
Adding a Request Type
- Click Add Request Type.
- Enter a name for the type (for example, “Standard Discount”, “Partner Pricing”, or “Deal Exception”).
- Optionally, add a description — this is shown to submitters when they select the type, so it helps them choose the right one.
- Click Save.
The new type is immediately available when submitters create a new request.
Editing a Request Type
- Click the edit icon next to the type you want to change.
- Update the name or description.
- Click Save.
Changing a type name updates how it appears going forward. Existing requests that used the old name will reflect the new name automatically.
Attaching Custom Fields to a Type
Each request type can have its own custom fields. To add fields to a type:
- Open the request type for editing.
- In the Custom Fields section, click Add Field or select from existing fields you’ve already created.
- For each field, set whether it is required or optional.
- Save.
When a submitter selects this request type, the attached fields appear automatically on the request form. See Adding and Managing Custom Fields for instructions on creating the fields themselves.
Deleting a Request Type
- Click the delete icon next to the type.
- Confirm the deletion.
Deleting a request type does not delete existing requests that used it — those requests retain their type label and field values. The deleted type simply becomes unavailable for new requests.
Minimum Requirements
You must have at least one request type configured before requests can be submitted. If no types exist, the new request form will prompt the administrator to create one.
