Product Categories Overview

Understand what product categories are and how they work.

Last updated: Jul 2, 2026

Product categories group your products and define shared pricing and custom field configurations. Every product must belong to a category — the category is what sets the product's base List Price and determines which custom fields appear on the product form.

Navigating to Categories

Click Categories in the left sidebar, directly below Manage Products. The page is available to users with product category permissions.

How categories relate to products

When a product is added or edited, the Model / Category field is a dropdown that lists all available categories. Selecting a category:

  • Automatically sets the product's List Price to the category's Base Price
  • Loads any custom fields defined on that category into the product form

This means the category is the source of truth for the base price and custom field structure of all products within it.

The category list

Categories are displayed in a paginated table sorted alphabetically by name.

Available actions

From the category list you can:

  • Add a new category
  • Edit an existing category
  • Delete a category

Before deleting a category, be aware that products linked to that category will lose their category association. Ensure no active products are using the category before deleting it.
