Editing a Draft Request
Change anything before it hits the queue
While a request is in Draft status, you can freely edit any part of it — the request details, line items, notes, and custom fields. Once a request is submitted, it can no longer be edited.
Opening a Draft
- In the sidebar, click Requests.
- Select the Drafts tab, or use the search bar to find the request by name.
- Click the request to open it.
You can also access your drafts directly from the Dashboard home.
What You Can Edit
In a Draft, every field is editable:
- Request name — Click to rename
- Request type — Change the type if you selected the wrong one; note that switching types may show or hide custom fields
- Notes — Add, update, or remove context for approvers
- Custom fields — Fill in or update any organization-defined fields
- Line items — Add new products, update quantities or requested prices, or remove items entirely
Changes are saved automatically as you type. There is no separate save button for draft edits.
Adding and Removing Line Items
To add a product, click Add Line Item and search the catalog. To remove a product, click the remove icon on the right side of its row. You can have as many line items as needed — there is no maximum.
Changing the Request Type
If you change the request type on a draft, any custom fields from the previous type that no longer apply to the new type will be removed. If the new type has required custom fields that the previous type didn’t, those will appear and must be filled in before you can submit.
What You Cannot Do on a Draft
- You cannot approve or deny your own draft — approval actions are only available after submission.
- You cannot reassign the request to a different submitter. Only the person who created the request can edit and submit it.
Deleting a Draft
To permanently delete a draft you no longer need:
- Open the request.
- Click the options menu (three dots) in the top-right of the request.
- Select Delete.
Deleted drafts cannot be recovered.
